A passenger flying from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina last July has been handed the largest fine in the Federal Aviation Administration's history for unruly behavior.
According to the FAA, the passenger in question threatened to hurt an attendant, after having fallen into the aisle aboard their American Airlines flight on July 7th. The unnamed woman pushed the attendant before trying to open a cabin door, following which two attendants attempted to restrain her. She then hit one of the attendants in the head multiple times.
The woman was then restrained in flex cuffs, at which point she headbutted, bit, kicked, and spat at crew and others on board. Unsurprisingly, she was subsequently apprehended by officers in Charlotte.
The proposed fine comes in at $81,950.
"If you are on an airplane, don’t be a jerk and don’t endanger the flight crews and fellow passengers. If you do, you will be fined by the FAA," said U.S. Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg on THE VIEW, per the FAA.
The FAA also announced its second-largest proposed fine to date on Friday. This fine, worth $77,272, comes after a woman allegedly tried to hug and kiss the passenger seated next to her, before walking to the front of the plane which she tried to exit during the flight. She also bit another passenger multiple times, before also being restrained.
The release states that the passengers in question have 30 days to respond to these fines.
