The family of a woman is suing Arlington and the former police officer who accidentally shot her to death two years ago.
Now-former Arlington officer Ravinder Singh was sent out on a call about a woman passed out in a grassy area behind some homes. He saw a woman named Maggie Brooks and based on body cam video was walking toward her.
He is heard in the video calling out to see if she is okay when a dog starts running toward Singh.
Singh fires three shots to stop the dog but ends up hitting Brooks in the chest. She died that day at the hospital.
The lawsuit claims Singh did not take into account the risks to Brooks when her fired at the dog while she was in the line of fire.
As for the criminal case, Singh has been indicted on criminally negligent homicide charges. The case has not yet come to trial.
