We all appreciate it when firefighters go the extra mile to save pets from a fire. But for a fire crew from East Montgomery County -- just north of Houston -- this job was really above-and-beyond the call of duty.

The EMC Fire Department reports it got a call to a house fire. But on the way, the call notes were updated to say "20 snakes, lizards, tarantulas and a crocodile will be secured inside." Yikes!

After the fire was doused and all the critters were accounted for safe, the EMC Fire Department posted a photo of one of their own standing in front of the house -- holding a beautiful but quite large boa constrictor.

Their message says "not what you are expecting to hear but we will rescue your animals too if possible!! Everyone just thought we rescued cats in trees."
