New York (1080 KRLD) - A former sportswriter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram has broken her silence about being raped while on assignment nearly two decades ago.

Kat O'Brien worked as a sportswriter for the Star-Telegram from 2001 to 2006, serving as the Texas Rangers' beat reporter in the 2006 season before moving to New York to cover the Yankees.

O'Brien wrote in a New York Times piece that ran over the weekend that in 2002, she was forcibly raped by a player she was interviewing in a hotel room.

She did not name the player, only to say that he did not play for the Rangers or the Yankees.

O'Brien writes in the Times that she had stayed silent until now out of fear of losing her career.

O'Brien currently lives in New York and is no longer working in sports journalism, having switched careers in 2010.
