FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- The Fort Worth fire chief is reaching out to the Tarrant County fire marshal about ways to keep fireworks safe in these very dry conditions.
In a letter to Fire Marshal Randy Renois dated June 2nd, Fort Worth Fire Chief Jim Davis made three requests -- to support the prohibition of firework sales, to support the request of the Commissioners Court to reinstate the burn ban, and to support the request of the county judge for a disaster declaration to prevent the use of fireworks.
Renois says while the burn ban was lifted two days after the drafting of the letter, the Commissioners Court will discuss reinstating it at its next meeting.
He says he's powerless in preventing the sale of fireworks in the county; and as far as the disaster declaration- Fire Chief Davis says within Fort Worth city limits, fire crews have responded to almost 400 outdoor fires since April 1st, well above the pace of the last two years.
This only applies to unincorporated areas of Tarrant County; the possession and use of fireworks are illegal within the limits of all cities.
