Kids in Fort Worth can now continue to eat healthy during the summertime when school is out.

"From June 6th to July 21st, Monday through Thursday, we offer free breakfast and lunch for any child 18 or younger who wants to get a free meal," said Joseph Coburn, chief of district operations for the Fort Worth ISD.

The program, which is funded by federal dollars, is intended to allow kids experiencing food insecurities to eat healthy during the summer.

"There are areas that can become food deserts. Grocery stores aren't as readily available, certainly within walking distance," Coburn said. "And a lot of our kids have to be pretty self-reliant during the summer."

There are no income or residency requirements, and kids do not need to be enrolled in any summer program.

"The nice thing about this is that anybody can take advantage of it," Coburn said. "We don't want any kid in the area to go without breakfast and lunch during the summer."
