FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The Fort Worth ISD community is mourning the loss of a beloved principal.
Sellars Elementary School Principal Steven Mattic passed away over the weekend.
The school district says while Mattic had battled several health problems recently, his death was completely unexpected.
"This is a profound shock to the David K. Sellars school community, as well as the Fort Worth ISD," Superintendent Kent Scribner said in a statement. "Please join us in our support and prayers for students, families, and the many administrators who held Steven in such high regard. His loss will be felt by so many."
Mattic joined the Fort Worth ISD in 2002 and had served as principal at Sellars since 2013.
He had previously been a reading teacher at Mitchell Boulevard Elementary and assistant principal at Davis and Logan elementary schools.
The district will have grief counselors on hand for teachers and students at Sellars, as well as at the teaching and learning center.
