Our partners at NBC 5 tell us that Fort Worth ISD has more than 900 students and 185 staff currently in quarantine, after either testing positive for COVID-19, or being exposed to someone who did. Those who were both exposed to the virus, and fully vaccinated were not required to quarantine.
Since children under 12 are not eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19, the school district is proposing a temporary virtual learning program for students in the 6th grade and below. Students would need to have a documented medical condition in order to opt into the virtual learning program.
The school board will meet on Tuesday to vote on the virtual learning program. If approved registration for online classes would begin this Wednesday. Classes would then begin on Monday, September 13th.
At this time all schools in the district are still open.
