The mayor of Fort Worth says it is past time to put politics aside and reach solutions on how to prevent another mass shooting in Texas.

The day after 19 kids and two teachers were gunned down at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker says political grandstanding in Austin needs to end now.

"We are not listening to our police departments and our chiefs association when it comes to major legislation in Austin," said a visibly frustrated Mayor Parker. "When a chiefs association and your law enforcement officers step up and say be careful what you're passing in Austin, we have to listen better to them."

Mayor Parker says both sides need to come together to craft solutions on tricky issues.

"We have to find bipartisan solutions (to) some of these really complicated problems," said Mayor Parker. "There's a lot of conversation about gun control, there's a lot of conversation about mental health. It's an 'and.' All of this has to be on the table for discussion right now in the state of Texas; and in Fort Worth, I want us to lead the charge."
