The Fort Worth Police Department has made its pitch to the city council for millions of dollars of new equipment and technology to help fight crime and increase transparency.

During the afternoon work session, the department asked the council to approve a contract with AXON, which currently provides its body cameras, dash cameras, and tasers.

Lieutenant Vince Brown says among the innovations would be live-streaming of police responses.

"Supervisors that aren't on scene, or at a command post, can live stream and see what the officers are seeing so they can help make better decisions," Brown said.

And technology would be put into place to allow instant uploading of dashcam and bodycam footage.

The 12-year contract would cost on average $6 million a year.

The Fort Worth City Council is expected to vote on the proposal at its meeting next week.
