Fort Worth Police were called to the Trailwood neighborhood near the 820 North Loop and Old Decatur Rd. on a report of a woman who overdosed.

Police eventually found the woman inside her vehicle on the other side of a metal fence along Riverflat Dr.

"Once the female saw the officers and prior to us making any kind of contact, she purposely drove her vehicle into a body of water.," says Ofc. Buddy Calzada.

The woman was the only one in the vehicle at the time; the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as Amanda Salinas, 35, of Fort Worth.

Fort Worth Fire quickly responded to the scene at that point.

"The first arriving Fort Worth fire engine was able to get in the water with the help of a civilian that had a boat here on scene," says Mike Drivdahl, Fort Worth Fire spokesman. "They made several attempts to go under the water to try to rescue the individual that was in the vehicle. Those attempts were unsuccessful."

Dive teams were then called to the scene, but they had no luck rescuing the woman.

"They had a very difficult time accessing the vehicle; and at that point, it was determined that this would be a recovery, not a rescue."
