FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Starting Sunday, books won't be the only thing you can check out at the Fort Worth Public Library.

You can also borrow musical instruments.

"We'll have acoustic guitars, we'll have electric guitars, basses, we have a banjo, some ukuleles, a couple of percussive instruments like drum pads (and) some keyboards," says Rita Alfaro, music librarian at the Fort Worth Public Library.

"We'll have some pedals to go along with the electric guitars, some amps, and we even have a PA system to check out. So if you guys just want to do some really fun karaoke at your house, you'll have that available."

But what won't be available, at least for the time being, are any instruments that are played with the mouth, like clarinets, trumpets or saxophones.

Alfaro says that's out of caution, since we're just now coming out of the pandemic.

"Our first thing was things that were easy to clean off; things where you didn't have to use your mouth," says Alfaro.

The process is the same as that for borrowing books.

"You'll be able to take them out for three weeks," Alfaro says, "and then you can renew them up to two times if they don't have any hold on them."

There will be a sneak preview of all the instruments available for loan Saturday from noon to 3:00 p.m. at Doc's Records, 2628 Weisenberger St., Fort Worth.
