If you need to get your pets vaccinated or microchipped, you have a golden opportunity in Arlington Saturday.

Operation Kindness will be at Arlington Animal Services tomorrow to provide free vaccinations and microchipping to pets.

"We will vaccinate any age-appropriate animal, so they have to be over three months old," said Ed Jamison, CEO of Operation Kindness. "And our whole idea is to be able to put vaccines and microchips into as many dogs and cats as we can."

The event is also aimed at educating pet owners of the importance of vaccines and microchipping.

"Arlington Animal Services really leads the way," said Jamison. "They're one of the best at being able to reunite lost pets with their owners, and the microchip is the absolute best way to be able to make that happen."

Data shows that pets who are microchipped are 20 times more likely to be returned to their owners, should they run off.

There are no residency requirements.

"You do not have to be an Arlington resident," Jamison said. "We want to get as many vaccines, so that we can keep these pets healthy; and if they do end up in a shelter, that reduces the chance of any shelter diseases popping up in shelters, as well just creating a better healthier population out there."

Saturday's event runs from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

"The earlier you can get there the better, as opposed to waiting until five minutes until 2:00, just because we work really hard to keep the lines moving and so that people can get through," said Jamison.

Operation Kindness' goal is to serve 400 pets at Saturday's event.

"If you're not sure of your pets' vaccination record or microchip, definitely get there," Jamison said. "It's better that we're able to get this in than have them go unvaccinated. There's a lot of illnesses that are around Texas, and this is the best way to prevent those and not have to worry about your pet becoming sick."
