Over some stiff objections from Frisco residents, the City Council has approved a zoning change paving the way for Universal Parks & Resorts to build one of its signature theme parks in the fast-growing North Texas city.

The planned park has been subjected to a number of public meetings including last night's joint meeting of the city council and the Frisco Planning and Zoning Commission.

While Planning and Zoning manager Jonathan Hubbard made a presentation supporting the Universal park, many if not most of the Frisco taxpayers who spoke were opposed. Some of them vehemently.

Their objections include issues surrounding traffic, noise and increased crime, just to name a few.

Plans call for construction to begin later this year on a vacant parcel near the Dallas North Tollway and Panther Creek Parkway. The size of the park is expected to be just under 100 acres, about half the size of Six Flags in Arlington.
