As gas prices continue to rise, so are gas thefts across North Texas.

Dallas police say that during a recent raid at a property in Oak Cliff they found hundreds of gallons of stolen gas. The thieves were pumping it into an actual gas pump on the property.

During another operation in another part of Oak Cliff, officers confiscated a truck with a large plastic tank in the backfilled with what, they said, was stolen gas.

Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas says usually thieves hit gas stations but many are beginning to target individual vehicles.

"If you are a victim of gas siphoning it can cost up to $1000 in repairs because it can damage your fuel tank and some of the parts inside there," Armbruster said.

He says to protect yourself when you can by parking in garages or well-lit areas.

In Houston, the manager of a gas station said thieves stole over 1000 gallons in four days from their underground tank.
