Dallas police chief Eddie Garcia has been on the job for 14 months, inheriting a city with a rising homicide rate and a department struggling with low morale.
Arriving from San Jose, California, Garcia put his crime plan in place last May. Since then, murder, robbery, aggravated assaults and overall violent crime is down.
The plan was conceived after he invited outside academic experts from the University of Texas at San Antonio to comment and provide input on how best to fight crime.
"The ultimate goal is to make Dallas the safest large city in America," Garcia said. "And I'm confident with our men and women and with our community support that we're going to get there."
KRLD's Austin York spoke with Garcia about the crime rate, his biggest surprise upon moving to Dallas and his love of the Cowboys.
