GRAPEVINE, TX (1080 KRLD)- The City of Grapevine is welcoming some jumbo-sized visitors this week. More than 20 life-sized replicas of dinosaurs are being set up at Grapevine's Meadowmere Park. It will become Prehistoric Park from March 11th through April 16th.
An alert KRLD listener spotted the dinosaurs headed to Grapevine earlier today on SH 121. "I saw a police escort coming....and they were escorting 18-wheelers with huge dinosaurs on them," said Diedre. She asked us to find out where they were headed so we reached out to the Grapevine Parks and Rec Department.
"We've got 21 animatronic life-size dinosaurs that are making Meadowmere Park their home for the next couple of weeks starting this Saturday, March 11th," said Morgan Denny, a Program Supervisor with Grapevine's Parks and Recreation Department. It's designed to help both kids and adults learn about Grapevine's prehistoric past in a fun way.
"We've got a trail with immersive items for folks to use QR codes. We've got a junior paleontologist challenge. They get to go on a scavenger hunt...as well as a dig pit," she said.
While Grapevine is known for grapes, Denny says they're also excited to celebrate some of their other attributes.

"After some flooding events in 2015 and previous years before that, we've uncovered some tracks in some areas in addition to some fossils we have on display at City Hall," she said. "We've decided to just embrace that."
Prehistoric Park will be open in Grapevine from 9:00 am through 6:00 pm from Saturday, March 11th through Sunday, April 16th. Some dates are reserved for special events. A full calendar is available on the city's website. Tickets are available in advance on that website through March 10th. After that, tickets will be sold at the Meadowmere Park Gatehouse.
