The holidays can put you through a lot of stress, both physically and emotionally. It's one of many reasons the most wonderful time of the year is also one of the most dangerous.

"A lot of people are out and about that aren't normally out and about," says Matt Zavadsky, Chief Transformation Officer with MedStar. "Especially folks who might be older or have some mobility challenges."
Zavadsky says the number of patients being treated for cardiovascular problems typically spikes this time of year, so does the number of reported falls and choking incidents. As more people get out of their comfort zone and crowd into small spaces, the risk goes up. And the holidays aren't just tough on the body.
"The psychological effects of the holidays really do take a toll," Zavadksy says.
If you haven’t heard from a someone in a while, Zavadsky says you should reach out, don't let them fall off the radar. The holidays can be tough to handle for a slew of reasons, but especially so for those dealing with loss or loneliness.
