A Hill County constable is recovering from emergency surgery after being shot during a police pursuit that ended in Johnson County yesterday.
Constable Kevin Cordell was wounded in Alvarado. After going through surgery last night, his colleagues at the Hill County Republican Party confirm he is "going to be okay."
Cordell was part of a police chase that began in Ellis County yesterday.
A Dallas police fugitive unit had word that two wanted men were on the road and asked for help getting them pulled over by the Ellis County Sheriff's Office and Waxahachie police. But the driver wanted no part of that, so the chase was on.
The pursuit wound around for awhile and somewhere along the line, Cordell joined in.
Near Alvarado, one of the squad cars knocked the suspect's car off the road with a pit maneuver.
Now surrounded by numerous police, the suspects opened fire, perforating at least one of the police vehicles with gunshots. That's when Cordell was wounded.
The wanted men were also shot in the exchange. One of them is reported to be in critical condition.
The Texas Rangers have been called in to investigate.
