Every winter, usually in January, common Grackles by the millions flock south from the colder parts of the country to spend the winter in Texas.
A video from Larry Collins, with our news partner NBC-5, captures thousands of the loud birds carpeting the parking lot at an Irving shopping center.
Their calls are nearly deafening as they congregate.
Ornithologists say grackles, like many birds, are drawn to parking lots because they are well-lit and are often near fast-food restaurants where the birds can find discarded food.
