A teacher who was named last year's "Student Choice Teacher of the Year" in the "Best of Denton County" publication has been arrested on several charges, including sexual assault of a child.

The teacher, John Collett, teaches at Camey Elementary School in Lewisville ISD. He turned himself in Wednesday in The Colony on the sexual assault charge and a charge of indecency with a child. He's been out of school on administrative leave.

"A parent from Camey Elementary grew suspicious of the teacher after picking up her child from school last week," The Colony police Sgt. DiMario Bishop said.

Collett's bond was set at $850,000. Bishop said $500,000 was for the charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child and $350,000 was for the charge of indecency with a child.

"At this time, we don't know of any other victims," Bishop said. "We're asking the public if they are suspicious of something or aware of any information that we may not have yet, to please reach out to us by contacting our SRO sergeant."
