Dallas Police and the Dallas County medical examiner are still investigating Wednesday's death of a man at the center of a SWAT stand-off in North Oak Cliff.
Police say it started when officers went to a home on Starr Street near east Eighth Street and I-35. They were looking for stolen cars and found two of them in the backyard of the home. It looked as if they were being sold for parts.
When police knocked, the man inside quickly locked the door and refused to come out. The man was later identified as 53-year-old Pablo Ramos.
SWAT was called in and after hours of negotiation, and getting no response from Ramos, they fired tear gas inside. There was still no response.
Police were told their Ramos was hiding in the attic of the home. So the SWAT team cut a hole in the roof to get to him. But when they found him, he was unconscious. Officials say he died at the hospital.
