Fort Worth Police say officers shot and killed a man who was firing at them overnight.
Just past 12:30 a.m. police reports say the unidentified man walked into the QuikTrip near I-35W and Northeast 28th Street at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday. He told the store clerk to call 9-1-1. The clerk did just that.
Police say they received several 911 calls from the QT about a person with a weapon. While officers were responding, they were told a man was walking "back and forth inside the store with a gun in his hand."
While police were on the way, a witness at the scene saw the guy help himself to a beer while waiting. When officers arrived, Fort Worth Police say the man walked out the front of the store and "immediately started firing his weapon toward officers."
The officers returned fire and the gunman went down. He was transported to a local hospital were he died.
Police say the department's Major Case unit will lead the investigation and expect to release more information in the next few days.
