Man opens fire inside Plano Police station, he is arrested and linked to Garland murder

A woman is dead in Garland and a man is locked up in Plano in two separate incidents that law enforcement officials think may be connected crimes.

About noon Sunday, Officers responded after a entered the lobby of the Police Department twice. Upon entering the lobby the second time, he displayed a handgun. He then raised his handgun and fired in the direction of a civilian police employee who was assisting a citizen in the lobby.

Plano police officer Jerry Minton explains that employee who was helping a civilian both hustled into a secure side room while officers emerged and shot the gunman. He's in the hospital but no one is saying how bad his wounds are.

Meanwhile, ten miles away in Garland a Lyft driver was shot and her body was found dumped on Forest Gate Drive near Forest Lane and Shiloh.

The reason police think the cases may be connected is that the victim's stolen car was found outside the Plano police headquarters.

Neither police department is saying for sure the Plano gunman is the one who murdered the driver and the incident remains under investigation. Garland and Plano Police personnel are working together to determine what led to the shootings. If anyone has information, they are urged to call Garland Police at 972-485-4840.

"What could have been a horrific tragedy was avoided, thanks to the swift and effective action of our Plano police officers" read a statement from Plano Mayor John Muns. "I applaud the response of the officers who responded who stopped a dangerous situation from taking a deadly turn. that could have taken a turn for the worse, if not for their response."
