The man suspected of supplying the fentanyl in the Carrollton overdose cases has signed papers saying he will plead guilty, but a judge still has to approve the deal.
Court records show 22-year old Jason Villanueva was arrested in February on charges of conspiracy to distribute drugs and conspiracy to distrubute drugs to people under 21.
The plea deal calls for a judge to decide a sentence between 5 and 40 years in prison for each charge.
Federal prosecutors have called Villanueva a top source of supply in the massive fentanyl overdose cases that killed three and poisoned another seven teenagers in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch school district. All were between ages 13 and 17.
Reports say the plea was accepted by a US Magistrate who is referring to a federal judge for approval.
A separate plea agreement for a woman who is a co-defendant of Villanueva has already been accepted and she is awaiting sentencing.
