TARRANT COUNTY, TX (1080 KRLD) -We now know the cause of death of a Tarrant County jail inmate who died while in custody over the summer.

On July 20, Trey Wormley, 23, was found unresponsive inside his cell and died at a hospital.

Wormley was the 41st inmate to die in custody in Tarrant County since 2019.

The Tarrant County medical examiner's office says it has determined that Wormley died of fentanyl poisoning.

At the time, Wormley was in the Green Bay unit -- the same unit where a little more than a month later, another inmate was rushed to a hospital after overdosing on fentanyl.

That inmate survived.

Through interviews with inmates, the sheriff's office has accused Alliyah Lyles, 25, a contract employee at the Green Bay unit, of smuggling fentanyl and other drugs into the facility.

The Sheriff's Office has not said whether it has positively connected Lyles to Wormley's death.
