Mesquite City Manager Cliff Keheley has announced the five finalists to be the city's next Chief of Police. Assistant Police Chief David Faaborg has been serving as Interim Chief since Charles Cato resigned from the department in March.

The group of five finalists includes four men and one woman. Only one candidate is from north Texas. James Lowery, Jr. is the Deputy Chief in Arlington. He's been in that position since 2018 and has 37 years of law enforcement experience. Stewart Steele is currently the Police Chief in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. It's a suburb of Albuquerque. Daniel Steidle is the Police Chief if Pacifica, California near San Francisco. Eric Winstrom is a Commander with the Chicago Police Department. Elvia Williams just retired from her position as the Police Chief in Richton Park, Illinois.

"These five candidates met our community's high standards and the expectations I have for the role of our next Police Chief. We are excited for them to meet our City Council and to continue their participation in the interview process," Keheley said,

The candidates will go through interviews in Mesquite next week. The City Manager plans to make his decision by the end of September.
