On Tuesday, metal detectors were installed at Grand Prairie High School as the district seeks to deal with a recent rash of fights on campus.
Many students waited for more than an hour to enter the building in lines wrapping around the building.

Sam Buchmeyer with the district acknowledged the wait but says; "the safety of our students and staff outweighs any temporary inconvenience."
He says the Grand Prairie ISD has used portable metal detectors, both stand-up and handheld, at its secondary schools if needed for years.
