
A mid-air collision between two planes near Dallas Executive Airport during the Wings Over Dallas World War II Air show was reported Saturday afternoon by Dallas Fire-Rescue.
According to the department, the incident was reported as an Alert 3 – Aircraft Emergency at around 1:25 p.m.
As of 3:20 p.m. there was not yet any available information from the department on the status of the pilots or whether any injuries were reported from falling debris.
People shared photos and videos they said were of the crash on social media late Saturday afternoon. One person who shared a photo of smoke was Twitter user Christopher Kratovil.
According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration, “a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a Bell P-63 Kingcobra collided and crashed at the Wings Over Dallas Airshow at Dallas Executive Airport in Texas around 1:20 p.m. local time Saturday. At this time, it is unknown how many people were on both aircraft.”
Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident, said the FAA, with the NTSB in charge of the investigation.
Following verification of aircraft registration numbers at the scene, the FAA will release them on a webpage by the next business day. Neither the FAA or the NTSB identifies people involved in aircraft accidents and information provided is subject to change, per the FAA statement.
