A two-time escapee from jails in Oklahoma and Mississippi has been caught by Dallas County sheriff's deputies after a short chase.

The Dallas County Sheriff's office says 31-year old Tyler Charles Payne was driving a Porsche that was recently reported stolen out of Frisco when he was spotted by a DPS helicopter pilot.

DPS notified the Dallas County Sheriff's office and deputies spotted the car just south of downtown Dallas. But instead of pulling over, the Sheriff's Office says Payne tried to outrun deputies. During the chase he got into an accident on I-35 near 8th street and then tried to carjack another person. That's when deputies apprehended Tyler.

In a Christmas Day head count, Payne and fellow inmate Traverro McElroy turned up missing from the Raymond Detention Center in Raymond, Mississippi. Payne was in prison for a car-jacking.

The pair was first thought to be in North Texas after their stolen van was hauled from Lake Fork near Quitman on December 27th.

Tyler is being held in the Dallas County jail on a string of charges including aggravated robbery, burglary of a business, burglary of a church, and auto theft. He is being held without bond.

Traverro McElroy is still on the run and is considered dangerous.
