Experts at the National Weather Service say conditions in north Texas could be right for heavy rain, high winds, hail or even a tornado this afternoon as a Pacific cold front could move through this afternoon or early this evening.
"We have had a couple of recent events where we've had a strong cap in place - that's a layer of warm air aloft that tends to suppress severe thunderstorm formation," said Fort Worth National Weather Service Chief Meteorologist Tom Bradshaw. "We really don't think we're going to have a cap."
He urged people to make their severe weather plans now before the front moves through.
"Strong to severe storms are a very, very good bet - so I think folks definitely need to be ready," he said "As far as tornadoes are concerned, we certainly can't rule them out. We don't think it's going to be just an 'end of the world'-type tornado scenario day, but we do think tornadoes are definitely possible. Folks need to have their safety plans in place and be ready for it."
