NORTH TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Week 15
(All games Friday unless noted. Rankings courtesy of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. Schedule is subject to change.)
GAME OF THE WEEK:
5AD1 #9 FRISCO LONE STAR (5-2, 5-0) at 5AD1 #1 DENTON RYAN (8-0, 6-0)
There is no shortage of storylines in this one. District championship on the line. Denton Ryan looks to complete a perfect regular season. Lone Star has been on a tear in building a five-game win streak after opening 0-2 with early losses to 7-1 North Forney and 6-1 Aledo. These two schools met in last year's 5AD1 state semifinals. Ryan took that one, 35-7, so there is the revenge angle for Lone Star. Plain and simple, these are two of the best 5A football teams in the state, and both are expected to make deep playoff runs. Don't be surprised if they meet again in the state quarterfinals. Frisco Lone Star Jr. QB Garret Rangel has completed 68% of his passes this season, with 19 touchdowns against just one interception. Ryan Sr. QB Seth Henigan is hungry to lead the Raiders to a state title after last year's championship game disappointment. Henigan has thrown for more than 2,000 yards this year, with 25 touchdowns and only four picks. Lone Star's last scheduled game with The Colony was cancled and declared a no-contest. Frisco Lone Star has clinched a playoff spot. Denton Ryan beat Frisco Independence last week, 52-21. WR Ja'Tavion Sanders caught five passes for 145 yards and 2 TDs. Ryan has clinched a playoff spot.
