One of the most congested interchanges in the state is one step closer to being fixed.
The Texas Transportation Commission has conditionally selected South-Point Constructors as the design and build contractor for the Southeast Connector project in Tarrant County. That's the Interstate 20 - Loop 820 - Hwy 287 interchange, the design of which is severely outdated given the volume of traffic that flows through it.
Val Lopez with TxDOT says modernizing that interchange will be a very lengthy process. "Construction will begin next year, possibly during the Summer and will last through 2027" said Lopez.
The project involves reconstructing those interchanges and widening I-20 and Loop 820.
Lopez says there are still items to hammer out before South-Point Constructors can formally be awarded the contract.
