Watauga Police, Watauga firefighters and Tarrant County sheriff's deputies team up to help a woman going through a mental health crisis.
On Wednesday, Watauga Police got a call about a woman causing a disturbance inside a business at the intersection of Watauga Blvd. and Bonnie Dr.
When they arrived, they noticed something rather unusual.
"The person causing the disturbance was actually up on the roof of the business," says Sgt. Danielle Bannick, Watauga Police spokeswoman.
Tarrant County Sheriff's deputies were passing by and jumped in to help.
"They tried speaking with her for several minutes from the ground and then were able to get up onto the roof with her," says Sgt. Bannick. "They were able to safely take her into custody and then get her to a hospital where she was receiving some help."
The officers and deputies safely brought the woman down via a Watauga Fire ladder truck.
The woman was not arrested and was not issued any citations.
"Our officers were able to determine in speaking with her that she was in the middle of a crisis and that she needed to be taken to a facility where she can be helped with that," Sgt. Bannick says.
Bannick says officers undergo extensive mental health training.
"We're not doctors, but it gives us some insight into what is that we're seeing and what the next steps might be on that call, how we should specifically be dealing with those type of people," says Bannick.
