Today in Allen, there is an opportunity to help remedy the nationwide blood shortage, which is impacting hospitals here in North Texas.

Linda Goelzer, Public Relations Director for Carter Blood Care, says hospitals need all the help they can get right now.

"I know people hear about blood shortages all the time," Goelzer says. "But people in the industry … are saying this is literally a 30 year low. This is the worst they've seen it in their careers."

This afternoon in Allen you can help by donating blood at the Carter Blood Care Drive at the Watters Creek Shopping Center.

Everyone who donates will get a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich, as well as a free COVID-19 antibody test.

There are more donation sites set up across North Texas offering the same incentives, Goelzer says, and you can check here to find one near you.

You must be 18-year-old to donate, but teens as young as 16 can give with their parents permission.
