Police in Louisiana have charged one teenager in a carjacking that put a nine-year-old Midlothian girl in the hospital, but police say they are still looking for another suspect in the case.

Reports say victim Shelby Ayers-Wiedemann, her two older sisters and their dad were driving from Midlothian to Florida. Early Tuesday they stopped at an I-20 truck stop in Minden, Louisiana, about 35 miles east of Shreveport.

Police reports say the older girls got back to the car first while dad and Shelby were still inside. Suddenly, a would-be carjacker jumped behind the wheel and tried to take off. The father sprinted out to the car with Shelby right behind.

The carjacker's partner saw them and used their stolen truck to run over little Shelby as he sped up to pick up his accomplice and make their getaway.

Shelby was air-lifted to a hospital in Shreveport with broken bones and at least one bad cut on her head.

Hours after the assault, Minden police arrested one of the suspects, a 16-year-old in Shreveport. They also say they believe they know who the other suspect is so they expect to make another arrest when they track him down.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family with medical expenses.
