Dallas Police say a woman was killed and her daughter was shot on Thursday morning at their apartment in the Lake Highlands area of Northeast Dallas. Police say neighbors heard fighting at the complex near Audelia and Forest after midnight and called security who then called police to report gunfire.

Police say Jorge Flores, 44, did not live in the apartment but went there about 12:40 a.m. and started arguing with the tenant, Karla Castillo, 33. Police say the fight led to Flores shooting Castillo and Castillo's 14-year-old daughter.

Castillo died at the hospital. The 14-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition but should survive.

Police say Flores barricaded himself inside the apartment. SWAT responded, leading to a stand-off that continued until about 7 a.m. Police say SWAT went into the apartment and found Flores had committed suicide.

Police say another person who was in the apartment was able to escape and was not hurt. They are still investigating what led to the argument and shooting.
