Water utilities across North Texas are urging you to conserve water in any way you can.

"We have enough water to go around, if we all do our part," said Jason Pierce with the Upper Trinity Regional Water District, which has imposed Stage 1 watering restrictions amid the continued hot, dry conditions.

"It simply asks all of our homeowners and residents to avoid watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.," said Pierce, "and only water if needed up to no more than two times a week."

UTRWD imposed the Stage 1 watering restrictions back on June 28th.

"Our lakes are full; they're in great shape entering the summer months," Pierce said. "However, this is more of an operational concern."

Pierce said people have it in their power to ensure that UTRWD does not impose further water restrictions.

"If usage continues to creep up beyond what it is now, and it continues for a period of time, or we start to see our lake levels drop or have some type of failure within our system, we may have to go to Stage 2," said Pierce. "(That entails) limiting outdoor watering to one time a week, again avoiding watering between the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. And then there's additional requirements, such as pool fillings or refills and things of that nature."

And if Stage 3 becomes necessary, all outdoor watering would be prohibited.
