Governor Greg Abbott says schools cannot require masks … but the Dallas ISD is doing it, and now parents with kids enrolled in the Plano ISD say they want to do it, too. During a special board meeting last night, they begged district officials for options to keep their kids safe.
"I'm deeply concerned about the safety of my kids going back to school," one parent said. "I don't feel honestly comfortable sending my daughter, my little princess, to the school yet."
"Dallas ISD has mandated masks at school, I don't see why PISD cannot do that," said another.
One woman pleaded with trustees for more options. "Please," she said. "Please work with us until our kids are eligible for vaccinations."
Board trustees seem to agree that there should be some form of local control. They say they’re sending a letter to the governor asking for a waiver on masks.
The district is also offering a temporary, parent-led virtual learning option for kids too young to get the vaccine. The deadline to enroll is 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, August 11.
