New report suggests a fire at DFW Airport could have been worse

A report that was just released says a fire at the DFW International Airport could have gotten out of hand if the Airport fire department had not reacted quickly.

The fire at the fuel farm….away from the main airport terminal, sent flames 4 feet straight up on November 11th.  The report says a worker who did maintenance on a jet fuel pump apparently installed parts backward, leading to bearings that overheated and caught jet fuel vapor on fire.  Doctor Jahan Rasty of the Real World Forensic Engineering group credits firefighters with preventing a potential cascading problem.

It took around a minute for the DFW Airport firefighters to get control and then extinguish the fire. As it was the fire caused a ground stop that day.

The fuel farm is run by a private company, not the DFW Airport.
