Fort Worth (1080 KRLD) - Restaurants everywhere are examining their health and safety protocols amid this current spike in COVID-19 cases.
Jon Bonnell of Bonnell's Restaurant Group says, for example, staffers at his three Fort Worth restaurants now have to mask up once again.
"We are having the staff start putting on masks again in the hours as soon as customers start to arrive," Bonnell says in an interview with KRLD.
The mask requirement will not extend to customers, for now.
"At this point, we are not taking that step," says Bonnell. "It's certainly something to think about and we're going to just keep an eye on the situation and monitor it, but we are not going to require masks of our customers."
Various safety protocols that had been in place since last year have remained in force throughout the pandemic.
"We are still sanitizing like crazy all the time," Bonnell says. "We still have plexiglass in between lots of our tables, we still have quite a bit of spacing in between tables, and we're utilizing QR codes rather than physical menus for the most part."
And Bonnell's restaurants are continuing to offer curbside service.
"We've been doing curbside meals ever since March of last year," says Bonnell. "And that's still up and running and more popular than ever right about now."
Like almost all other small businesses across the country, the pandemic has also caused staffing issues at Bonnell's restaurants.
"We are staffed enough to be open, but we could always use more," says Bonnell. "We are short. We're looking for people, but we have enough to be operating right now."
