Dr. Stone has faced criticism from some residents over her promotion of racial equity policies for the district. Some parents have also been upset with her decision to keep mask mandates in place at some schools to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Dr. Stone announced last month that the final mask mandate covering elementary schools would expire at the end of the fall semester, which is December 17th. She said the district would continue to encourage students and employees to wear masks indoors.

"Our Heath Services Team will continue to closely watch the data and positive cases in each school and may temporarily require a mask on a class-by-class or even school-by-school basis if a substantial outbreak occurs that includes significant transmission within a class or a building," she said in November.

The RISD board is posted for a closed-door meeting in executive session tonight to discuss the superintendent's performance evaluation, which is allowed under Texas law. They could then hold a vote in public regarding Dr. Stone's continued employment.

If Dr. Stone does choose to step down, that would be the second major change in a Richardson ISD leadership position this fall. Previous RISD board president Karen Clardy stepped down in September.
