
An unnamed suspect is in custody after fatally shooting two Methodist Dallas Medical Center employees Saturday, Methodist Health System confirmed in a press release.
Methodist Health System Police, the Dallas Police Department, and Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to an active shooter call at Methodist Dallas Medical Center at approximately 11 a.m., the health system said.
Initially, NBC DFW reported that at least one person was shot. Other reports indicate there were two victims.
One of them was in critical condition Saturday afternoon, per local reports. According to NBC, a suspect was in custody shortly after the shooting.
As of 1:45 p.m., the suspect and the victims’ names had not been released.
Through a preliminary investigation, authorities determined the suspect now in custody shot the employees.
“A Methodist Health System Police Officer arrived on the scene, confronted the suspect, and fired his weapon at the suspect, injuring him,” said the health system press release. “The suspect was detained, stabilized, and taken to another local hospital.”
It also said that an investigation into the incident is ongoing, with Dallas Police assisting Methodist Health System Police.
“The Methodist Health System Family is heartbroken at the loss of two of our beloved team members. Our entire organization is grieving this unimaginable tragedy,” said a late afternoon statement from Methodist Health System Executive Leadership. “During this devastating time, we want to ensure our patients and employees that Methodist Dallas Medical Center is safe, and there is no ongoing threat. Our prayers are with our lost co-workers and their families, as well as our entire Methodist family. We appreciate the community’s support during this difficult time.”
