When you're heading to the State Fair this year, there's a new policy you should know about.

Each year, people of all ages pack Fair Park for all the food and fun. This year things will be a bit different.

State Fair officials say anyone under 17-year-old won't be allowed on fair grounds without a parent, guardian, or chaparone over the age of 21 after 5 pm.

“Public safety is our top priority. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming experience for all who attend our annual celebration of Texas,” said Jaime Navarro, chief operating officer for the State Fair of Texas. “Comparable policies are being instated industry-wide, and the State Fair of Texas believes this policy is the best course of action to enhance the existing safety measures for all fairgoers, vendors, and employees.”

Officials say there might be a slight delay getting in the gate this year because gate atendants will be checking IDs for all adults as they make their way inside.

The State Fair of Texas runs Friday, September 29 through Sunday, October 22.
