Suspects arrested in alleged robbery that resulted in the fatal shooting of a dog

A teenager described by the Fort Worth Police Department as "extremely violent" was the suspect in several robberies last week, including one where a store clerk's dog was fatally shot. Now the suspect is in police custody.

The 18-year-old, Donovin Copeland, was arrested at an apartment near the 6200 block of Vega Dr in southwest Fort Worth, according to authorities.

During surveillance of the apartment by FWPD Intel, Fugitive, and SWAT teams, two males were seen leaving the apartment.

As they were getting into a car and starting to exit the complex, officers approached them.

Donovin Copeland was in the vehicle and was arrested without incident.

The other male was identified as Billy Don Copeland, a 21-year-old, who is Donovin’s brother.

Billy Copeland is being charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and harboring a fugitive.

Fort Worth Police are thanking the community for providing the critical information leading to this arrest and local media for getting the word out.
