After a lot of debate, often contentious at times, the Tarrant County Commissioners have agree to a tax cut for the hospital district.

Last week, the Tarrant County Hospital District voted to approve a $1.5 billion budget that kept the tax rate steady at almost 22.5 cents per $100 of assessed value. That certainly brought out a lot of angry residents during yesterday's Commissioners Court meeting.

In the end, the commissioners, including three Republicans and two Democrats, voted unanimously to reject that proposed tax rate and instead to adopt a 3 cent rate cut.

The rate the county adopted will yield a tax bill almost $100 lower than if it had approved JPS Hospital's plan.

The move comes two months after the commissioners approved a 10% homestead exemption for the hospital district.
