Sharen Wilson has announced that she will not be running for re-election next year for a third term as Tarrant County's criminal district attorney.

"Together we have sought justice while being accessible, ethical and following and upholding he letter of the law," Wilson wrote in an email to employees in her department this morning. "To better serve our county, we have recognized the office resources and created new specialized teams to meet the changes in our society.

"Today, as I announce my intent not to seek re-election in 2022, I feel confident that our mission has been achieved."

The specialized teams Wilson referenced in her email include Elder Financial Fraud, Intimate Partner Violence and Conviction Integrity.

Wilson was first elected Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018.

Wilson's announcement comes on the heels of those by Judge Glen Whitley and Commissioner J.D. Johnson, who have both previously announced that they will not be running for re-election.
