With the number of new Covid cases and hospitalizations spiking in North Texas, Tarrant County plans to bring back large testing sites.
According to the DFW Hospital Council, Tarrant County has the highest number of hospitalized Covid patients in the region, and new cases are being reported every day.
In an effort to help slow the surge, Tarrant County is working to re-open some testing sites. County Commissioners have approved a deal with Bio IQ who will run the testing sites and have agreed to pay up to $4 million dollars to conduct testing.Federal funds from the American Rescue Act will be used to cover the cost.
County health director Vinny Taneja says with the Delta variant spreading quickly, there's been an increase demand for testing.
The first testing site is expected to open in the next couple of weeks. More sites could open later this fall, depending on demand.
