TCU, SMU war of words continue following post-game fight

Saturday's 'Iron Skillet' game may be in the books but the TCU and SMU war-of-words is far from over.

On Saturday, the SMU Mustangs beat the TCU Horned Frogs 42-34 but the real fireworks began after the game which was played at Amon Carter Stadium.

Following the game, some SMU players tried to plant their flag at mid-field but TCU players stopped them, and a scuffle broke out.

TCU coach Gary Patterson claimed one of his assistants had been hit in the head with an SMU helmet during the fight.

During his press conference yesterday, Patterson doubled down on the claim while acknowledging no video has surfaced to support it. He then said SMU had orchestrated the flag-planting incident that touched off the commotion.

It didn't take long for SMU athletic director Rick Hart to lash back with a statement saying: "While Coach Patterson acknowledged that his postgame claim cannot be substantiated, he accused our program, multiple times, of planning to plant our flag on the field following our win. This is a complete fabrication. I can state unequivocally that there was no such plan."
