Texas has fallen behind the national average for COVID-19 vaccinations, and doctors are now reaching out to communities that have been "underserved."
About 41% of Texans are now fully vaccinated, compared to the national average of 47%.
Texas Health Resources emergency room Dr. Dirk Parrott says they're now working with local community groups and churches to urge people to get vaccinated, saying faith leaders are the most trusted members of the community.
Dr. Parrott says minority groups have had lower vaccination rates, but they're now seeing more hesitancy among people in suburbs.
The Dallas Regional Chamber has launched a sweepstakes where people who get vaccinated can register for prizes at their website.
